Quick Search Tips:
General The Librarians' Index to the Internet (LII) is a searchable, annotated subject directory of more than 8,200 Internet resources selected and evaluated by librarians for their usefulness to users of public libraries. It's meant to be used by both librarians and non-librarians as a reliable and efficient guide to described and evaluated Internet resources.

Start by searching on just one or two terms, or a phrase (use quotes) . If this retrieves too much, sort the results by clicking on the "Results by Subject" link; narrow your search by adding more search terms; or re-do the search after selecting the "No Stemming" option.
All search terms must be found in the LII entry to be displayed. 
Search words are split on most punctuation characters (e.g., periods, dashes, slashes) . So if you enter travel.org , you are actually searching for travel AND org .  
Commas in the middle of words are not removed.  To search for a million of something you might try: 1000000 or 1,000,000 or million.
Case Sensitive No.
Phrase searching Enclose the phrase in quotation marks " ", e.g. "like this phrase".
To require No.
To exclude Use NOT.
Boolean logic AND: default, assumed between words.
OR: use an OR between words.
NOT: use NOT to eliminate words.  
You can use parenthesis ().  Note: There is no limit to the level of nesting.
Stemming Stems automatically most common plural and singular forms of words. To turn off stemming, click on the "No Stemming" checkbox.
Wildcards Use the asterisk * to replace multiple characters at the end of the term.
Sub-searching No.
Field searching You can simply select the field (see Search by).
"Search by" selection LII records are divided into fields. Start your search with "All fields" selected.
All fields: Searches words in the title, description, and subject fields of the LII record.
Subjects: Searches words in the record's subject field.  An LII record may have a number of different subjects assigned to it.  Note: You can also browse the "list of ALL subject terms" used.
Titles: Searches words in the record's title field.
Descriptions: Searches words in the record's description field.
Links: Searches URLs in the title and description fields. Since words are split on punctuation characters, you can search links for just part of a URL.
